The Legend of the Creeper Trail is Lawrence Dye. He is 82 years old and has ridden over 179,800 miles on the trail. He began riding the trail in 1990 and has averaged 10,000 miles a year since 1997 when he turned 65. You are invited to ride with “The Legend” and other members of the Virginia Creeper Trail Club, weather permitting, on Saturday, August 2. The ride begins at the Abingdon Trailhead at 8 a.m., departs Damascus around 10 a.m., arrives at Whitetop Station around noon for lunch, and heads back down the trail at 12:30 p.m.
Riders may join or leave the group at different locations. The pace is moderate with plenty of breaks. Bring your own bike, or rent one in Abingdon or Damascus. Wear weather-appropriate clothing, and bring water, food and bike repair kits.
